Women@Work NET, financed by Socrates , Grundtvig 2. Pro WOMEN
foundation is partner in this project implemented by European
Contact Group – Czech Republic together with other 3
organizations : Community Connections – United Kingdom, Vilnius
Trade Union ‘Solidarumas’ – Lithuania and Bridge to Life – Czech
Republic, August 2003 – July 2004
Objectives
• Help and training for women
activists from disadvantaged regions of Europe (especially in
the East) to start and run projects leading to empowerment and
requalification for unemployed women.
• Exchange of know-how, experience
and information on women projects and policies around Europe
related to women’s unemployment and work-related discrimination,
opportunities of learning and requalification as well as
development of new learning strategies.
• Visits of different women’s
projects and mutual exchanges focused on practical learning.
• Promotion of effective strategies
to combat women’s unemployment and discrimination, raising
public awareness on these issues.
• Network & partnership building
and promoting discussion and cooperation among partner
organisations on the local and European level.
Between 17 September 2003 and 20 September 2003, an
international workshop took place in Great Yarmouth, UK as one
of the first planned activity of the project. The seminar ‘WOMEN
IN MARGINAL AREAS – WOMEN IN PRECARIOUS ECONOMIES’ gathered
women from 11 countries: Great Britain, Romania, Czech Republic
and Lithuania, as partners within the project along with guests
from Albania, Germany, Latvia, Belgium, Finland, Poland and
Spain.
The seminar was focused on four major topics:
• WOMEN & THE LABOUR MARKET -
Analysis of the local situation & common points with our local
realities & relation to the global economy causing the similar
situation in various European countries. Are the women in poor
areas even poorer than men? Quality of family life in relation
to poverty. Home based precarious & informal work. Issue of
basic skills. Unemployment and social exclusion. Seasonal work.
Women entrepreneurs in poor areas.
• WOMEN OF ETHNIC MINORITIES IN
SMALL TOWNS - Difference between the life of migrant and refugee
women in cities and small regional towns or villages. Problems
they face. Relationship with the local community. Projects on
racial equality.
• WOMEN MAKING CONNECTIONS -
Introduction of local project on community building, support and
empowerment of women. Presentations of the other European
projects. Strategies for networking and an effective
co-operation on the ECG international level.
• WOMEN SUPPORT WOMEN - How we can
link local action with the global responsibility. How we can
support women working in garment industry under unbearable
conditions in other countries. Sweatshops in Europe. Clean
Clothes Campaign.

Between 4th
and 8th February an evaluation and planning meeting took place
in Prague, Czech Republic. There were 10 participants from 5
countries and the aims of the meeting were to do a short
evaluation of the activities developed so far and also to plan
the seminar to be organized in Iasi by the end of the June.
Apart from planning end evaluating, the participants also
acquired and practiced new icebreaking methods and tools for
group leading, chairing workshops and facilitating discussionc

An
international workshop “Women’s learning and practice on the
labour market” was organized in Iasi, Romania between 30th June
and 6th July 2004 as a second workshop in the frame of the W&W
Net.
The aims were:
• to learn about the women’s
projects and organisations in Romania
• find out more information about
women from disadvantaged rural regions
• exchange experience on strategies
of combating women’s discrimination on the labour market
• get training on evaluation and
emancipatory research
• make new contacts and links to
women’s project in Serbia and Republic of Moldova
• discuss daily working problems,
be together and empower each other.
25 women from Czech Republic, Lithuania, Moldavia, Romania,
Serbia and UK participated in the seminar. The main organiser
was Pro WOMEN foundation Romania with a support of the European
Contact Group in the Czech Republic.

„Training of Human Resources – Carpet Weaving” ( PRUT) ,
financed by Phare Project 2000 Economic and Social Cohesion –
Pro WOMEN is partner in this project together with TEHNOTRANS

Goal

To sustain initiatives for human resources employment,
especially female resources, in two villages of Iasi and
Botosani counties in order to create lasting working places and
to develop specific abilities for relaunching the local
traditions
Activities
• Training 25 women in each of the
2 locations in carpet weaving (with certificate)
• Creating and developing a local
small company for manufacturing wool carpets (at least 10 looms)
• Informing people from the 2
villages related to other local opportunities with great
economical potential

Sustaining social integration of young girls exposed to human
trafficking
Target group

Objectives
• setting –up a club for teen
girls, led and promoted by themselves
• informing and training on topics
of interest, related to their age
• promoting teen girls involvement
in civic life, volunteering and civic responsibilities

• Increasing the level of self
esteem for the teenagers participating to club’s activities
• Improving the level of
information for topics of interest related to their age
• Creating an independent attitude
based on self exploring and self respect for members’ club

4. ILSA – follow –
up, Equal Chances on the Labour Market from Iasi, sociological
research, September 2003 – January 2004
Activities

• Conducting an opinion poll in
Iasi city on worker's opinion on discrimination on the labour
market (600 subjects)
•
Sociological interviews with managers of the most important
local companies regarding their policies on equal chances on the
labour market
• Organising a meeting in
partnership with the Local Department of Unemployment;
participants will be managers, other NGO who developed projects
on the labour market and also mass-media. The meeting will
present the results of the opinion pool and will discuss the
local strategy for dealing with and especially those at a high
social risk.

enterprises at the local level

5.”Local Initiatives of Supporting Young
Girls”, co - financed by US DOL and IREX ( International
Research & Exchanges Board), May – December 2003
Goal

To support the economic integration of girls exposed to human
trafficking.
Target group
80 girls and young women from Iasi, Vaslui and Roman
Objectives
• Identifying the traffiking origin
locations (dancing schools, placement centers, vocational
schools)
• Informing and training a group of
80 vulnerable girls in order to improve their job skills and
abilities to meet the labour market requirements
• Providing qualification courses
and job mediation for the target group
Obtained
Results
• 75% of the target group was
enlisted to qualification courses organized by education
providers accredited by the Labor and Social Solidarity Ministry
and the Education and Research Ministry
• 90% of the target group benefited
from empowerment training and activities
• An improved collaboration among
social actors (NGOs, local authorities) from the three counties
• An evaluation camp for the
results and the impact of the project on teens was organized by
the end of the project. The chosen place for this activity was
Muncel camp, near Pascani – Iasi County. There were 30 girls, 16
from Iasi, 8 from Vaslui and 6 from Roman. The two – day’s
program included both educational and evaluative activities and
leisure ones. The girls received small presents, due also to the
fact that Christmas holidays were coming.

6. „Business
Opportunities for Women” – co - financed by UNDP (United Nations
Development Programme) and CIDA (Canadian Agency for
International Development), June – November 2003
Goal
To raise the level of women’s involvement in entrepreneurial
activity of Iasi city
Target group
• 40 women willing to start a small
business
• 40 women to become self -employee
Objectives
• To support women in starting and
developing their own business in order to contribute to economic
development of local comunity
• to encourage the small
entrepreneurship for women in different jobs required by the
present trend of the labour market (obtaining the authorization
for individual activities/ self employment)
• to contribute to the
implementation of the Action Plan for Sustainable Development
for Iasi in order to improve the business sector and to raise
the economic status of the citizens
Obtained Results
• 70 % of the women gained the
abilities and the techniques for starting a their own business
business
• designing a local plan to suport
business women in Iasi comunity
• a brochure containing all the
necessary information for staring a business has been edited

7. Culture and Education – Poll Opinion in
Tatarasi - financed by Pro Helvetia – Swiss Cultural Programme
Romania, July - August 2003
Goal
Identifying the local priorities in Iasi city and Tatarasi
district especially, related to information, education and
citizens participation to the cultural activities, in order to
raise their personal development and their contribution to the
community development and to the quality of life.
Activities
• Organizing 3 focus groups of 8 –
10 persons from Tătăraşi district
• Conducting an oppinion poll on
400 persons living in Tatarasi district
• Realising a research related to
culture and education needs for people
Obtained Results
• organising a meeting at Iaşi City
Hall including Vice Mayor Gheorghe Nechita, representatives of
Pro Helvetia and various non-governamental organisations. The
aim of the meeting targets the setting of a collaboration
pertnership regarding cultural-based activities in Tătăraşi
district.

8.”Counseling Center for Unemployed
Women” financed by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation
– project part of the program “Labor Market and Trade Union
Modernization ” developed by REPER network in Romania
First mandate: April 2000 – December 2002
Goal
Reducing unemployed women’s marginalizing and sustaining their
integration / reintegration on the labor market.
The main activities of the project:
•
Psychological counseling for unemployed women
• Training program for raising the
abilities for searching and maintaining a job
• Applying tests for professional
orientation
• Offering information for those
who want to set up their own small business
• Legal counseling (Women’s rights
on labor market, specific legislation)
• Organizing group meetings for
personal empowerment
• Collaboration with the local
companies offering jobs
• Establish a connection between
unemployed women and employers
• Collaboration with the local
institutions for labor’s issues
• Collaboration with other local
NGO’s which send us their clients (women victims of domestic
violence, women in different risk situation, young women and
girls who leave the placement centers)

Raising the level of local authorities awareness on gender
issues as well as their involvement in promoting gender policies

organizing weekend seminars on the following topics: ‘National
and international legislation on equal chances’, ‘Sex / gender’,
‘Discrimination’, ‘Domestic violence and human traffic’,
‘Communication and Conflict’, ‘Stress management and time
management’

Goal
Informing a large number of people on the necessity of
implementing equal opportunities concept
Objectives
• TOT for local authorities
representatives (gender facilitators) in order to be able to
conducting a campaign on gender issues in public institutions
• Organizing informative seminars
on specific topics in local institutions and local companies
• Editing and disseminating
informative bulletins to a number of 30 Romanian gender NGO
Obtained Results
• Conducting a number of 36
seminars in 10 local public institutions and 21 companies ( over
600 participants)
• Creating a local network of 12
gender trainers ( women working in local public authorities)
• Applying several actions within
the intervention areas, set up in the National Action Plan for
equal chances between men and women

11. ‘Preventing the illegal work’ financed by
Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, August 2001 –
March 2002
Goal
Raising the level of awareness and information on black labor
issues for high-school students
Objectives
• Training a number of 1,100 people
from vocational schools, future graduates and employers,
regarding the risks of working without legal papers
• Information sessions in 12
vocational schools regarding the legislation on the labor market
and the contracts for working outside the country
• Informing women attending
“Counseling Center for Unemployed Women” services on the issues
of black labor
• Editing and disseminating
informative brochures for all the mediation centers within REPER
network
Obtained Results
• More than 1,100 people trained in
12 vocational schools in Iasi county
• Meetings with 65 teachers,
discussing the problems young women are confronted with
• Informing the women who attend
the services of the ‘Counseling Center for Unemployed Women
‘about various risks of illegally working in the country as well
