EQUAL I” (Gender Equality and Local
Authorities), financed by Open Society Foundation Bucharest –
Women’s Program, March 2001 – December 2002
Goal
Raising the level of local authorities awareness on gender
issues as well as their involvement in promoting gender policies
in all areas
Objectives
•
organizing weekend seminars on the following topics: ‘National
and international legislation on equal chances’, ‘Sex / gender’,
‘Discrimination’, ‘Domestic violence and human traffic’,
‘Communication and Conflict’, ‘Stress management and time
management’
• conducting an opinion poll in
local institutions on gender issues and editing a brochure
containing the results of it
• monthly meetings with mass media
in order to discuss the current problems women are facing with
• producing and disseminating
informative materials
Obtained Results
• creating a network of gender
facilitators, local authorities representatives
• Strengthen the relation with
local mass – media, raising their awareness for gender equality
between women and men
• Trainers have organized other
events for disadvantaged groups on the local level

EQUAL II – “Gender Equality in Other
Places” financed by Open Society Foundation Bucharest – Women’s
Program, April 2002 – February 2003
Goal
Informing a large number of people on the necessity of
implementing equal opportunities concept
Objectives
• TOT for local authorities
representatives (gender facilitators) in order to be able to
conducting a campaign on gender issues in public institutions
• Organizing informative seminars
on specific topics in local institutions and local companies
• Editing and disseminating
informative bulletins to a number of 30 Romanian gender NGO
Obtained Results
• Conducting a number of 36
seminars in 10 local public institutions and 21 companies ( over
600 participants)
• Creating a local network of 12
gender trainers ( women working in local public authorities)
• Applying several actions within
the intervention areas, set up in the National Action Plan for
equal chances between men and women

of chances, domestic violence, discrimination, reproductive
health, trafficking in human beings, male or female jobs, women
and the divorce, women and career, women and politics, gender
budgeting
• open a phone line free of charge

Results
• 12 issues, in 4000 copies were
edited and distributed in Iasi city on the following topics:

Romanian NGOs More Active in Gender
Mainstreaming
Pro WOMEN Foundation was the
partner in this project along with Euro Regional Centre for
Democracy Timisoara and Roma Communities Resources Centre, the
main applicant being Partnership for Equality Centre from
Bucharest. The project aimed to organize trainings on gender
issues, realizing a site

and organizing a national conference.
Pro WOMEN Foundation ensured consultancy and support for
organizing two regional seminars Gender mainstreaming – method
and instruments in Iasi between 30 September and 1 October and
25 – 26 November 2004.
